A Special Birthday Gift to Our Customers

Dear Our Customers

Today is our birthday! Although the journey to creating this business has taken a lifetime, one year ago is when we became an official company in terms of the Companies Act. We obtained our first customer on 18 May 2019 and gained an average of 3 per month since then, to reach 36 subscribed customers today.

In one year we recycled over 3 tons of food waste, avoiding approximately 5.7 tons of CO2-e (the equivalent of 50 tanks of petrol).

It's not easy to celebrate such a momentous first year during lockdown, but we had a good time planting seedlings which sets the foundation for the year to come.

You may know by now that we love giving you gifts, so we would like to announce a special gift only to our customers (and some special mentors)...

We've had a dream to do business unusual, to show South Africa a different way of doing things...To create something new and exciting which makes peoples' eyes open wide and their heart heart beat with curiosity.

Using one model, we've also set out to tackle as many problems as possible, with one of the major problems facing South Africa being a lack of transparency, leading to corruption. This is perhaps our most critical challenge to solve if we want to move forward and let everyone obtain basic needs.

With so much mistrust and green washing out there, it can be difficult to figure out who means what they say. But we don't think it needs to be that way. We never want our customers to feel unsure about our mission so we're ready to do what other businesses would never dare to do. We'll show you everything.

In this social impact birthday spirit, we humbly present a little gift attached which is our financial statements for our first year. You are free to see how much we earned and how we spent it. A business would not usually tell its customers how much they earned from them, but we do, because every transaction is always made in line with the interests of our customers and their fellow South Africans. We believe this level of transparency is a greater gift than any amount of vermicompost we could give you, and we trust it will keep us accountable to your expectations.

In the year to come we are planning to expand a bit faster to obtain 200 customers, and develop organic products which we have been testing for several months. We trust you will continue to be inspiring customers and keep joining our work when you can.

We feel extremely proud to have accomplished something new for South Africa and, even though it is still small, it feels like a significant moment in history. We feel honoured to have customers like you to made it happen and are forever grateful.

Send my thanks to your families for recycling and see you after lockdown!
